Email marketing is one of the most effective ways to reach your target audience, build rapport and expand your business. However, it can also be one of the most irritating things if you send out so-called ‘unsolicited’ emails every now and then.
Today’s inbox overload has made it exceedingly difficult for people to read every piece of email they receive. This is why you need to find ways to make your emails more relevant to get people’s attention. But this isn’t always easy; especially if you have a large subscriber list that receives dozens of emails daily.
Working with over 100 eCommerce businesses, I’ve observed that Klaviyo accounts have around 20% to 40% unengaged subscribers. Sending email campaigns to these subscribers reduces email engagement and increases the chance of messages being classified as spam. It affects your deliverability and suggests email providers to put your messages in the spam box for other recipients as well.
In this post, I will walk you through the process of setting up a segment in Klaviyo to identify subscribers who are not actively engaging with your emails.
# Step 1: List & Segments
Go to Klaviyo account & click on Lists & Segments as shown in the screenshot below:
# Step 2: Create Segment
Click on Create List / Segment button as shown in the screenshot below:
Step 3: Click on Segment
Click on Segment as shown in the screenshot below:
Step 4: Enter a name of the segment
Enter a name of the segment as shown in the screenshot below.
Step 5: Create the definition
Create the definition of the segment as shown in the screenshot below:
Step 6: Complete the definitions
Click on AND button and add other definition also as shown in the screenshot below:
Step 7: Finalize Segment
Now click on Create Segment button as shown in the screenshot below:
Your segment is now created.
Wait for a couple of minutes till Klaviyo processes your segment. You will be able to see the number of unengaged subscribers in your account.
🤔 Remember: These are some of your most unengaged subscribers, who haven’t engaged once in 180 days! You are paying for these subscribers to Klaviyo every month while hurting your domain reputation and email open rates. You should immediately clean these subscribers from your lists.
